GMTIFS selected as first generation GMT instrument

The GMT Board announced that GMTIFS is selected among the first generation of instruments for GMT. The other instruments are the wide-field multi-object optical spectrograph, GMACS, and the high-resolution optical spectrograph, GCLEF. GMTIFS will be the first-light instrument for the GMT Laser Tomography Adaptive Optics systems, and so will perform the first high angular resolution adaptive-optics science with GMT.

GMTIFS passes Conceptual Design Review

The GMTO released the report of the GMTIFS Conceptual Design Review committee and congratulated the GMTIFS team on successfully completing all requirements of the review.

GMTIFS Conceptual Design Review

The GMTIFS team presented the results of the GMTIFS Conceptual Design Study at the Conceptual Design Review meeting in Pasadena, California. The Review committee consisted of astronomers and instrument specialist from USA, UK, Canada, and Germany.

GMTIFS selected as potential GMT 'first-light' instrument

The GMTO has selected six instrument concepts, including GMTIFS, to perform Conceptual Design Studies during which the instrument designs, costs, and schedules will be developed. The Studies will last approximately 18 months and will report their results at Conceptual Design Review meetings.
