Matthew Colless is the tenth director of Mount Stromlo. Colless’ previous astronomical research focussed on determining the total density of matter in the universe, and the motion and position of galaxies. He is currently leading a survey into the nature of ‘dark energy’.

Colless was the Director of the Anglo-Australian Observatory at Siding Spring for nine years before taking over the directorship of Mount Stromlo.
